Larger systems often have magnetic tape drives which are usually
bulky and expensive. Still, magnetic tapes are the most compatible
UNIX-to-UNIX data transfer media on the market today.

Similarly, most newer computer systems have a magnetic cartridge
which offers both ease of use and high-capacity storage. In
addition, 1/4-inch data cartridges have a format compatible with
several UNIX systems, unlike floppy disks.

In addition, larger systems will often have several hard disk drives
along with parallel-connected graphics workstations. All of these must
have proper controllers, the required device drivers as part of your
UNIX System's kernel, and a proper software configuration!
